1. Overview

Tap to Shift is a self-awareness app designed to support moment-to-moment awareness and nervous system support in a simple, private, and respectful way.

Your privacy matters. This Privacy Policy explains what information Tap to Shift may collect, how that information is used, how long it may be retained, and the choices you have regarding your data.

2. How Tap to Shift Works

Tap to Shift can be used with or without creating an account.

  • Core features may be available without signing in.

  • Creating an account allows eligible information, progress, and saved entries to be associated with your account and accessed across sessions.

  • Some features allow you to voluntarily save reflections, selections, logs, preferences, or other self-awareness information.

3. Information We Collect

We collect or process information as necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Tap to Shift experience.

If you use Tap to Shift without creating an account:

  • You may use certain core features without providing account information.

  • Certain app activity or technical information may still be processed to support app functionality, reliability, and analytics.

If you create an account or choose to save information, we may collect:

  • A unique user ID through Firebase Authentication

  • Account information you voluntarily provide

  • Optional content you choose to enter or save, such as reflections, gratitude entries, anxiety logs, self-regulation entries, Regulation Tendencies answers, Self-Awareness Mirror selections, and other inputs

  • App activity and feature-interaction information used to provide, maintain, and improve the app

  • Notification preferences or related settings when you choose to use notification features

You choose what personal reflections, selections, or other content you provide.

4. How Your Data Is Used

  • Provide app functionality

  • Save your progress and entries

  • Maintain continuity across sessions

  • Support account-related features

  • Remember preferences you choose to save

  • Improve app functionality, reliability, and user experience

  • Understand general feature usage and engagement

We do not:

  • Sell your personal information

  • Rent your personal information

  • Share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes

5. Analytics

Tap to Shift may use analytics services, including Firebase, to understand how the app is used and to improve app functionality.

Analytics may include information such as:

  • App and feature interactions

  • General usage and engagement

  • Technical information about the app or device

  • App performance or reliability information

We do not use analytics information to sell personal data or serve third-party advertising.

6. App Permissions

Tap to Shift may request limited device permissions when necessary for features you choose to use.

These may include:

  • Microphone access for optional voice-input features

  • Notification permission for optional Today’s Shift messages, reminders, or other app notifications

Voice-input features may rely on speech-recognition services provided by your device or operating system. Depending on your device and settings, voice data may be processed by services operated by Apple, Google, or another platform provider.

Permissions are used only for the functionality for which they are requested. Tap to Shift does not use these permissions for advertising or cross-app tracking.

7. Notifications

Tap to Shift may offer optional notifications, including Today’s Shift messages or other reminders.

You may choose whether to allow notifications through your device settings or available settings within the app.

Notification preferences may be stored on your device or associated with your app settings as necessary to provide the feature.

8. Sharing & Export Features

Tap to Shift may allow you to create, export, save, or share cards, PDFs, summaries, messages, reflections, selections, or other content based on information you choose to provide or select.

Tap to Shift does not automatically post, send, or share this content anywhere.

You decide whether to share or export content and which app, service, device location, or person receives it through your device’s available sharing or saving options.

Once you choose to share content with another app, platform, service, or person, that third party’s privacy practices and handling of the information may apply.

9. Third-Party Services

Tap to Shift uses third-party services to support app functionality, including:

  • Firebase by Google for services such as authentication, cloud data storage, analytics, and app infrastructure

  • Apple and/or Google platform services when you choose to use device features such as speech recognition, notifications, sharing, calling, or messaging

Tap to Shift may also provide access to independent crisis or emergency resources, such as 988 or 911 in the United States.

Selecting one of these resources may open your device’s phone or messaging app so you can choose whether to contact the service directly.

Tap to Shift does not operate or control these independent services and does not automatically send your Tap to Shift account data, reflections, or saved entries to them.

Third-party services may process information as necessary to provide their functionality and operate according to their own privacy and security practices.

10. Data Security

Tap to Shift takes reasonable measures to protect information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure.

We use established third-party infrastructure, including Firebase, to support the storage and processing of app data.

However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

11. Data Retention

Tap to Shift retains account information and user-provided content only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the app’s features and services.

If you create an account, information associated with your account, including saved reflections, selections, logs, and other user-provided content, may be retained while your account remains active so that your progress and experience can be maintained across sessions.

When you delete your account through Tap to Shift, your account and associated user data are deleted from our active systems, except where limited retention may be necessary for legitimate legal, security, fraud-prevention, regulatory, or operational purposes.

Some information may remain temporarily in secure backups or systems operated by our service providers before being removed according to their applicable retention and deletion processes.

When you delete your account, your Tap to Shift account and associated user data are deleted from our active systems, subject to the limited retention circumstances described in the Data Retention section above.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If we become aware that personal information from a child under 13 has been collected, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
